Help.21. Have Crohn's. Just found out I'm pregnant.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and I just found out I am pregnant, (4 wks) I was on birth control-proof that it doesn't always work. Ironically, a month ago, I stopped taking all of my meds. Maybe it was the baby inside telling me I needed to quit. I was supposed to start remicade right before I got pregnant. Again, something really strange because something was telling me NOT to start it. I was not being compliant when it came to taking my meds so I made an apt with my GI.Two days before my GI appointment I found out I was pregnant! We are both in college and graduating in August. We come from very supportive, and financially stable families. Its not the worst "time" to have a baby.The real concern is that I do not know if I am healthy enough to carry a baby.Because I am pregnant, they can't do a normal CT scan to see how active my disease is.My GI is sending me to a specialist because my Crohn's is actually pretty different. I have never had physical symptoms of Crohn's. No pain, no abnormal BM. Just low blood counts, ulcers, and strictures in my small intestines. Basically, I am just emotionally drained and trying to see what the best decision is. I was wondering if I could get any opinions from people on here, maybe even people with children. My fear is that I will have complications with the pregnancy, or that the babys health, or my health my be on the line. I know that when the disease is active you also have a higher chance of having a miscarriage. The fact that it may be in my best interest and the babys to terminate is absolutely devastating to me and something that I am not sure I could ever let go.

My name is Brittany I am 22 and i have had severe Crohn's disease for almost 14 years. Pain, bleeding, etc the whole deal.
I have two daughters. Im not going to lie i got pretty sick during both pregnancies and constantly heard people telling me that my health is on the line and that i should terminate. But i was listening to God rather than the people around me. With my first daughter i was not as sick as i was with my second one. I got sick AFTER i had my first one. With my second i was high risk, hospitalized for two weeks, the whole shabang. However, i have had SEVER colitis so im hoping this brings you comfort not fear. I made it through both pregnancies and one is now four healthy and gorgeous and my little trouper is 10 months old and doing amazing. their health is fantastic. :) Don't stress, God doesn't make mistakes. Hence getting pregnant while on birth control .
Also, with my high risk pregnancy i was on ALL my medication plus some and she came out perfect. :)

Generally, women with Crohn's have few problems carrying babies to term and delivering healthy babies. I was diagnosed with Crohns when I was 17 and I later gave birth to two healthy children. Interesting, my Ob/Gyn thought that pregnancy actually helped Crohns! The best thing to do is talk to your OB/Gyn and gastro doctors about the situation and find out what medicines you can and cannot take. Eat healthy foods and avoid foods that do not agree with you. Definitely take prenatal vitamins and make sure you eat plenty of protein or calcium - either through food or supplements.
