1st Eval in Fl (Scared to leave home!)

Sat, January 09, 2016 9:06 AM

I’m feeling very anxious about traveling for my 1st Evaluation appointment with Rheumatology & Gastrology in Jacksonville, FL. Sometimes I allow myself to be held prisoner in my own home, because I'm afraid of my unpredictable symptoms. I actually know ever amazing public restroom in my town, but I'll be traveling 6 hours away with no guarantee of a bathroom ASAP. I also get horrible nausea & "transition labor" like pain when my IBD flares up; which leads to hours on the toilet with vomiting as well. That is never pleasant in a public restroom! I'm scared of being stuck in a car. I've got "PRN" medications like Phenegren/Bentyl. Should I take them before we leave even if I'm non-symptomatic at that time? Should I avoid eating for 24 hours prior? What do you do to help you travel far from home?

Thankfully, my kiddos will be in fabulous hands while we are away. But I also hate the idea of being so far away from my boys. I’m not sure what to expect & was hoping someone might have some experience leaving town for a “Specialty” Hospital. I feel like I’m forgetting something….well, that’s a daily thing!!
I would appreciate any advice on what to expect or items you wish you had brought or ways to manage symptoms while traveling.
Thank you!! :)
