low grade fever

Mon, September 22, 2008 12:00 AM

Does anyone else have trouble with constant fever. I run up to 100.3 almost every single day. If I am still the fever goes down. If I am moving around, it is up again. I am taking lialda 4x a day. Just took myself off the Rowasa enemas because I thought it was making things worse. This flareup began 5 weeks ago and I have been out of the house about 6x in all since then.

Thanks.

the low grade fever your experiencing is from the immflamation due to your crohns disease.  i have had crohns for 11 years and every flare i run a low grade fever.  your doctor needs to put you on a different medication good luck, Mev

when i get a fever on my meds, it usually means i'm either having a flare-up or i have a cold that's being suppressed by the immunosuppressants. you ought to have some bloodwork done, even if a fever is listed under side effects for the meds, just to be safe i would think. one time i started spiking fevers and i had bilateral kidney infections and was hopsitalized for 2 weeks with no other symptoms, it was kinda crazy.

I looked up the side effects, on the web, for Lialda and the Rowasa enemas. They both list fever. Since I took myself off the enemas, I cannot say the fever has gone away totally. However, I am still taking Lialda 4 pills a day. That could be the cause.

How are the blood workups for your son? Mine show no problems with the white blood count, so it is not infection. My doctor says infammation can cause fever. But we now know the meds can too. When I was taking 3 Lialda a day, I did not have fever, but I don't know if I should go back to that?
I am a little new to this, because these are my first flare ups in 30 years. It seems like this treatment might be a balancing act?

Yes, I wrote a post about this earlier if you want to read  more about it but I take asacol, I've been on and off because it makes me feel worse. Last monday when I was taking it I got a low grade fever and I had to take two tylenol to break it, then I stopped on tuesday becasue I was  getting stomach cramps and still having diarrhea.  I started again on friday at my doc's request  and by saturday I had the low grade fever again and stomach cramps and diarrhea, it makes me feel horrible and I stopped again, asacol does nothing for me. I know they're both mesalamines and a side affect listed is fever. definitely tell your doctor if you haven't already. http://ibdcrohns.about.com/library/sideeffects/blmesalamine.htm
