Wondering if anyone's doctors allows them "emergency" meds to keep on hand. Just got out of the hospital for the 6th time in 4 years with a partial or full bowel obstruction. It seems like steroids always do the job to fix. I would just love to avoid the ER in the future so wondering if anyone has had any experience with this?

My gastroenterologist prescribed last year a 90-day supply of Budesonide (270 capsules). He knew I could only tolerate a full dosage of meds for two weeks and would need to taper off the meds for 8 weeks. Luckily it worked. I went an entire year without a flare-up... until I got Covid. It wasn't Covid that initiated the flare-up, it was my severe allergic reaction to the anti-virus medication that kicked it into high gear. My immune system went into overdrive. Anyway, I called the doctor and he told me to use the remaining Budesonide (about 180 of them) from last year and instructed me to just repeat the process as I did before and to call him if there is an issue. To me, that was a nice way to address the flare-up without having to jump through hoops to get an appointment and get anything done. He gave me a new prescription for another 90-day supply as the old stuff was a couple months away from expiring. Oh, saved a lot using Good-RX verses Medicare buying the prescription. Now I have a back-up for at least another year or so. Best of luck. Stay healthy.
