I'm a 74 year old male in reasonably good health. My very mild case of UC is under control for a while now - rarely I see some blood after a BM, but I'm pretty sure that's due to a hemmoroid - my stools are usually well-formed - no cramping. BUT, I do seem to have a lot of flatulence - A LOT - besides being annoying, the gas must also be passing some "debris" because I see brown stains and "skid marks" on my underwear - I wipe thoroughly after a morning BM, often using a water-based diaper wipe. I take 6 500mg sulfasalazine each day. I also take probiotics, thinking that they'll be god for my "gut health", which will hopefully help the UC - Ive asked nmy doctor, but he doesn't seem to have strong feelings either way about the probiotics. I also take wheat dextrin fiber each day. I have read that the wheat dextrin fiber is often responsible for gas \ flatulence. I tried the psycillium husk fiber but the jellied consistency was uncomfortable. I'd REALLY like to reduce \ eliminate the gas - any suggestions? Thanks in advance . . . .

A limited amount of spices in the diet seems to help me with that issue. I've noticed that if I go TOO bland and avoided anything "hot" I have more gas. Ginger, black pepper, cayenne, and salt in moderation seem to do me more good than harm. They say to avoid the cruciferous family of veggies (broccoli, cabbage, etc.) to cut gas, but that has also been a mixed bag in my experience.
Everything in moderation is one of my key weapons against my Crohn's. Different than UC perhaps, and people have different tolerance levels to stuff.
I've had what I think is an unusual life-health experience in many ways, with having mild allergic reactions to weird stuff, like radishes when I was a kid for one example, and cold air blowing across my skin used to give me hives in my early teens, so I guess allergic to cold! Hazelnuts give me edema around my eyes and burning sensation on the sides of my tongue, so I avoid them even though I love them. I haven't really tested that tolerance lately, but I know it has improved. I had a allergic reaction to Azathioprine in 2014 that made me unable to walk for a couple days due to joint pain. I sometimes get pin-prick pains, like someone is jabbing me with something, usually in my feet, but sometimes legs, arms, or abdomen too. Anyway, sorry for rambling and I hope you find a way to reduce your gas issue.
