Hi me again . Though might as well ask on here . My major problem with having collitus is when I have stomach pain I imediatly rush to the toilet just incase witch can be quite awkward as you can imagine and I'm sure you know how I feel . Most of the times I just go to pass gas or bit of poo or pus . I'm sure if I could just either hold it in till I actually needed to go to the toilet I would be sorted wondered if anyone else has any advice on this seems to just be a natural reaction now and my body seems to think stomach ache or a gurgle and it's time to go to the toilet . Thakyou :)

I've been dealing with Crohns for 30 years and have the same problems you mentioned. My GI discovered that the intestinal valve that is supposed to keep bile salts from entering the colon (which then gives you the runs) was leaking. Came to learn that this is not an uncommon problem for Crohnies who have the disease in the terminal ileum (Bingo!). Doc first prescribed Colestipol, a mediocre cholesterol-lowering drug that was found to have a surprise side effect of binding the bile salts to keep them from entering the colon. Works like magic! Now, Colestipol sometimes raises your triglycerides (mine went through the roof), so a year ago I switched to Cholestyramine, a powder you mix into juice, which for me works as well as the Colestipol pills, but without raising my triglycerides. Might be worth asking your GI.

I had a proctocollectomy with j pouch. In other words, complete removal of my colon, and a section of my small intestine fashioned into a substitute colon .it works fairly well, but I now have Crohn’s disease.

I also have colitis and have to go to the restroom frequently. I've tried the GasX and the Beano, but they both don't help with my gas as it's hard for me to control it. I've also tried the Shreddies underwear, but it didn't help much either. It is quite embarssing. I always bring the Deodorizer spray with me to the restroom. Doctors and nurses don't seem to have a cure/effective treatment for it, which can be frustrating.

honestly practice holding it in for as long as you can, you will get better at that and your body will learn. take deep breaths and picture pulling everything back up inside you to practice. walking helps. You can teach your body to hold longer.
Try marshmellow root pills to slow everything down a bit, works well for me. Weed does it too.

I was extremely anemic because I passed blood in every stool. Iron treatments did me no good, so they switched to blood transfusions which helped but still weren’t enough. I ended up having the surgery, which sort of fixed the problem.

I wear Depends 24/7 and always carry extra in my car. It helps the worrying.
What i I don’t understand is why they can’t seem to do a blinking thing for any of us! Why would a doctor take the time to become an internist and then throw Imodium at me and shrug? This is not a new disease! I was first diagnosed in 1978!
CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE ARE ANY ARTICLES HERE THAT REVIEW THE VARIOUS TREATMENT OPTIONS.?
DOES ANYONE HAVE A GOOD DR IN EITHER DC OR NORCAL?
Mine was better for for many years but came back after chemo, simultaneously with heart trouble from the chemo.
IDK if this will help anyone but my cardiologist (NOTmy internist) discovered that plying me with iron and staying highly hydrated helps with the exhaustion. I keep a case of bottles of water in the trunk.
Hope that hat can help someone.
Thank you.

Ignore those warnings signs at your peril. If your body says it’s time to go to the bathroom and you ignore it, you will be sorry, eventually.
