This is a weird question I have had for a long time. At my last colonoscopy my Dr said he couldn't get the tube in since my bowels were so constricted at the opening. never thought id be typing this, but I have been considering ways to relax the butt such as colon cleansing or butt plugs. while this may sound like a joke, I would do anything to give myself some relief and if using a massaging tool helps relieve constriction then I might give it a shot. so yeah, if this post doesnt get removed, I guess I'm asking for the groups experience with butt plugs? I have had crohns for almost 20 years since I was young, and I am in enough pain right now that I might order a butt massager on Amazon and try to hide my experiment from my girlfriend.

I would say it could help, but my reccomendation would be to search for anal beads that start out small and go bigger. An odd topic but I think that might be a better option since the sizes can start so small and gradually get bigger.
Take it slow if you do! Don't want to make matters worse with a tear or too much strain.

Jabooty,
I had/have structuring at the anorectal junction. My GI doctor said he could barely get a finger in there for digital exam. He sent me to a colorectal surgeon. I had and EUS, exam under anesthesia, where he dilated the area. Used hydrocortisone suppositories for 2 weeks before and after my follow up appointment to decrease the active inflammation. Things were great for about 9 months. Smooth flowing poos when before I felt constipated even with mushy poo. The colorectal surgeon said it was common for the strictures to return. He said there are at home "anal dilation" kits to help prevent recurrence as quick. I looked it up. It's pretty much butt plugs of varied sizes. So, yeah. Butt plugs can be helpful. I would ask your doctor before jumping in all willy-nilly though. And, who knows, they might even be covered under insurance. Also, a good lube will be

dont hide anything from your partner, always a bad idea. Ask your guy to use the kid scope. Ask your DR what to do about relaxing those muscles, maybe the plug idea isnt a bad one but I think if they have trouble getting scope in, its not gonna be easy to get even the smallest plug in.

i would imagine the options would be:
-is there anything that can bring-down the inflammation in that area? Ie Medication.
-or is it a stricture, in which case medication wouldn’t be able to reverse and surgery may be needed.
I had a colonoscopy in 2012 where they couldn’t get the scope through. It was due to a stricture, and as a result I ended up needing a surgery (resection). The surgery was a very difficult few weeks, but I ended up doing into remission for many years after it so it was the right thing for me.
hopefully you have a good treating team to help you understand what’s going on, and to help consider what treatment may be needed/useful
