rectal dysplasia

Sat, February 10, 2024 11:12 AM

Is anyone else a Crohn's patient dealing with high-grade colitis-associated dysplasia? I have been under surveillance for rectal dysplasia for a year, with 5 biopsies continually coming back as positive (waiting on the 6th). I was diagnosed with Crohn's over 30 years ago. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences dealing with this complication. Thanks.

From my quick understanding, there may be a treatment for the problem, whether it can be cured completely or not. According to the situation, your illness has lasted for 30 years, it may be chronic. Have you gone to other hospitals and found a more effective treatment?

Depending on the severity of the disease, the doctor will choose the appropriate treatment regimen:
  • Level 1: anti-inflammatory drugs: masalazine, antibiotics, digestive enzymes.
  • Level 2: corticosteroids, budesonide
  • Level 3: immunosuppressants, azathioprine, methotrexate...
  • Level 4: biological drugs: infliximab, adalimumab, ustekinumab...
  • Level 5: surgery with complications of perforation, stenosis, fistula, abscess...
Biological drugs are considered a good choice for patients with moderate to severe Crohn's disease, with many poor prognostic factors, and have brought about very good treatment results.
