Hemorrhoids?

Tue, May 26, 2009 10:07 AM

I have been diagnosed with CD for almost 20 years, since college. I have had a bad flare-up recently and am experiencing symptoms I've never had before including joint pain and a really painful hemorrhoid. Anyone else have hemorrhoids? What can I do--making the many trips to the bathroom even more painful. It's totally bulging all the time--burning and really uncomfortable. Dr prescribed anusol suppositories and sitz baths, but doesn't seem to be making a dent. Anyone have any remedies or suggestions? I'm concerned I amy need to have it removed??

You can often relieve the mild pain, swelling and inflammation of hemorrhoids with home treatments. Moto X3M

  • Eat high-fiber foods. Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Doing so softens the stool and increases its bulk, which will help you avoid the straining that can worsen symptoms from existing hemorrhoids. Add fiber to your diet slowly to avoid problems with gas.
  • Use topical treatments. Apply an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream or suppository containing hydrocortisone, or use pads containing witch hazel or a numbing agent.
  • Soak regularly in a warm bath or sitz bath. Soak your anal area in plain warm water for 10 to 15 minutes two to three times a day. A sitz bath fits over the toilet.
  • Take oral pain relievers. You can use acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) temporarily to help relieve your discomfort.

I had hemorrhoids for about two years, and I tried everything from changing my diet to laxatives and although it helped they never completely went away. But as it turns out, my hemorrhoids were a symptom of an omega-3 deficiency! Not enough omega-3 causes inflammation. From what I've read, it takes anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to see the effects. I've been taking 4 grams of omega 3 for about a month and my hemorrhoids are completely gone!! Please look into it. I had to post this because I'm just so grateful that I've finally found the solution. I'm finally back to normal!! I had to do a little experimenting went I first started supplementing. You're supposed to shoot for a 1 to 1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6. I get more then 4 grams of omega six from what I eat every day, based on my calculations, but when I took 5 grams of omega-3, my gums were bleeding a little when brushing my teeth in the morning, so I cut back to 4 grams and that's what my body likes I guess. I don't think I'll supplement this high a dose for very long though. Maybe I'll cut back to two grams after my first bottle runs out. Anyway, I hope this helps!

I've had a similar problem but for a couple of years now and I've been using a steroid cream that really helps the hemorrhoids go down in twice the amount of time. It's called Scherproct I think and you need to get it from the doctors. I found out about it on this site and if it doesn't work for you there's heaps of other suggestions too that i found helpful during a flare up https://hemorrhoid-support.com/hemorrhoid-treatment-and-my-reviews/

Kind of a no win. Luckily, it has finally started to shrink and seems to be getting slowly smaller every day.

Some gastros are reluctant to have hemorrhoids removed, if they are you are more prone to perianal fistulas, and these are worse than hemorrhoids, and can lead to surgery.

Sounds awful. I found sitz baths of warm water alternated with ice helped the bottom a lot.  Hopefully you heal up and they can do the colonoscopy and diagnose you so they can get you on some meds. good luck!

Hi there.  I have not been diagnosed with UC or Crohn's but my doc is wanting to do a colonoscopy to find out if I have.  I started out with HORRIBLE hemmroids in March of 09, 3 of them - 1 thrombosed, and the colon/rectal surgeon did a hemmroidectomy.  I haven't had anymore hemmroid trouble since, but had to have an anorectal abscess drained in May of 09 while healing from the other and have had some horrible symptoms since.  Both are painful recoveries.  Now, if my bottom will completely heal up, the doc can do the colonoscopy and find the root of all the other issues.

Thanks....you are absolutely right, veg and fiber would be a big help, but I am on a low residue low fiber diet (Drs orders) which is probably a good part of the reason why i'm getting hemorrhoids. I can't have any fiber, raw fruit, whole grains or raw veg right now. Pretty ironic, huh!

I'm sorry to hear that. Make sure u get second opinion. Homorrhoid worsen might be the cause of going to many trip to the bathroom. Try  changing your diet, like eat more veg. and fiber. Hope u get better

Yikes. My Dr is thinking it might be getting "thrombosed" and is watching it right now. He mentioned lancing it. At this point I am willing to try anything. The hemorrhoid is actually worse than the flare-up right now.

I diagnosis with UC in 2006 after my 2005 surgery for the homorrhoids. Which i did stapling and have two surgery removing the staples. It painful and doesn't help.I'm regetting having surgery cause hommrrhoid do come back. Try baby wipes. wipe softly and do sitz bath with warm water to 10 min. no hot water it will burn. If u decide to remove the hemmorrhord, try rubber band ligation first. It less pain. Well good luck...

I've had UC for around 40 years, but 20 years into it, I got terrible hemorrhoids (having given birth to four children didn't help.)  None of the usual remedies worked.  Surgery did, and was no big deal, and I got over it quickly.  Of course, you'd prefer to have surgery when you're NOT having a flare-up of your IBD.

I had really bad hemorrhoids right before my diagnosis of UC and they were like your description- nothing would soothe them.  Have you tried the Tucks wipes?  My sister-in-law's dr told her once to fold one of the tucks wipes, put it on the hemorrhoid, put an an ice pack on it, and let it sit an hour.  So maybe try that. Some people also put epsom salt in bath water and sit in it.  I also tried spraying lanacane on the area. It provides some relief but just doesn't last long.  Mine finally went away after being on high doses of IV steroids in the hospital (obviously for the inflammation associated with UC- but it helped the swelling of the hemorrhoids too) and slowing down the diarrhea, therefore reducing the irritation.
