Medicaid???

Thu, November 21, 2013 10:48 PM

With Obamacare, my husband's company has increased our deductibles/coinsurance contribution to $5000 per  year... totally unmanageable for us!  I get Remicade infusions every 6 weeks which are billed at $11,000 per treatment, meaning I'd be expected to write out a check for ~$5000 at the first treatment in January... I've had several people tell me that with the diagnosis of Crohn's and my history of having surgeries, requiring infusions, etc, I should be eligible for Medicaid.  We do not qualify for Medicaid under the income guidelines, but I've been told that income is not considered if you have a qualifying disability.  Does anyone qualify/have Medicaid solely based on your IBD diagnosis (NOT income?)??? We are desperate for some financial help in regard to deductibles! TIA!!!

May I suggest contacting the company that makes the medication for your infussion.

My wife gets infussion for RA and the company helps pay for the medication. I know this will only help a little but every penny counts under Obamacare.

My husband's employer has the same high deductible limit.  Fortunately, I can keep my UC GI symptoms in remission with Asacol so altho costly, not as expensive as your treatments.  But believe me, by the end of the year I meet my deductible as well.  Check with the drug company for reduced costs.  If none, can you work out a payment plan for your remicade treatments to spread the cost throughout the year?  I also suffer from fatigue, burning/dry eyes, chronic sinusitis, muscle aches, joint stiffness and aches and find it impossible to work FT especially with stringent dietary needs.  So tired of NOT living life to the fullest!  Would love to qualify for medicaid but doubt that's reality - you would need your doctor to classify you as disabled before even thinking of getting an application accepted.  The only thing my GI doc offered me was a hug (he's been my doc for 25 yrs!) which unfortuately, doesn't pay the bills.  Good luck.
