i was diagnosed  about 2 yrs ago it has been living *** for me ever since. i'm only 22 yrs old, trying to get and education and make it on my own. since i've been sick all i ever wanted to do is become a nurse to help others in my situation. i've had to quit college twice because of surgeries i've even been told by the chair person of the nursing program that i do not belong there, she said i have no bussiness in her program and she doesn't care about my personal problems b/c everyone has them. i cryed my eyes out in her office b/c i was so devistated, she told me to stop putting on a show. i'm trying to tranfer to a new school but i have to start the program pretty much over again. i've worked very hard to get through the first two years of it and have only one year left. is there any kind of tuition assistance for people w/ chronic illnesses? i keep taking out loans and can bearly afford to go back. that's not even the worst part. i have a bad flare about every six months and i usually have to stop working. disability is going to run out on dec. 25th and i'm still not better and will most likely not be able to go back b/c the insurance company keeps refusing my remicade treatments, i've tried every other mes but nothing else works. omg! i can't afford anything anymore i don't know what to do? i know i can't work and go to college at the same time any more either b/c it's just too stressful and i end up getting sick. i don't know what to do, i'm so lost. if anyone can give me any advise it would mean a lot to me!

I agree with a previous post. Get a hold of an attorney asap that's discrimination.

I would try to get your degree via online. There are plenty of accredited online universities where you can earn a degree at your own pace. Like Phoenix Online.

Go to your local library. They have a list of government loans (at low interest) and grants for people with conditions like us.

I pray for the best for you. You'll make a great nurse because you'll understand your patients unlike many nurses out there.

that school should be ashamed of themselves. nursing is supposed to be a helping profession and if they cant even set an example of how to treat someone with this disease in the real world who really needs help at a time like this theyve got another thing coming. i am also going to school for nursing and am scared of how its going to be trying to nurse and deal with this!!! dont worry about how long it takes you to finish school, because you're still young and youve got years to work and pay off the loans, and nursing pays pretty well   but take it one test at a time and when you DO finish, you will be such an excellent nurse because you will be able to empathize with your patients so much and they will really appreciate the care they get from you

also do some research on prescription drug assistance.  some drug companies will help pay for your meds, even if they aren't their brands.  you can get permanent disability as well, you just have to file for it. 

honestly, if it is a nursing school that won't help you becuase you have a disease, that is against the law.  no one can treat you like that.  go to the americans with disabilities webpage and file complaints.  it is illegal for them to treat you any differently.  file a complaint with the schools board of directors as well, throwing in the word lawsuit usually perks ears...even if you aren't going to sue.  they can't treat you any different because you are sick.

There are indeed some scholarships for those diagnosed with Crohns disease.  Here is some info from a website.............

Thirty scholarships of up to $10,000 each are now available for people with Crohns disease. The scholarships are for 2008, and are being funded by UCB, a pharmaceutical company. These are one-time scholarships for people of any age. Applicants for the scholarship must be diagnosed with Crohns disease, working towards an associate’s, undergraduate, or graduate degree or enrolled in a trade school educational program, and either already enrolled or awaiting enrollment for higher education in the fall of 2008.
