Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum but not new to Crohn's Disease. I was diagnose with Crohn's Disease in 1998 when I was 12 years old. It started out with my appendix being removed by my primary care physician and treatment through antibiotics which caused C. Difficile. This intensified the pain, diarrhea, and vomiting which ultimately put me in ICU for about 45 days treating the C. Diff. After the C. Diff was gone, Crohn's was diagnosed and treated through extremely high dosages of Prednisone, Imuran, Paxil, pain killers, and probably a few other medications I can't remember. I have had approximately 5 or 6 colonoscopies, 3 in 1998, 1 in 2005, and 1 in 2010 to check up on how I am doing.
I am writing this today because since my diagnosis in 1998 I have not had any flare ups or issues with Crohn's. It has been 14 years since the initial diagnosis and during check up colonoscopies, I have no signs of flare ups. Could this have been misdiagnosed? I know that people with Crohn's will have constant battles with food they eat, frequent flair ups, and frequent treatment needed. I eat whatever I want with no side effects and have normal bowel movements. Spicy foods that are said to make Crohn's worse create no issues for me when I eat them.
Has anyone seen a Crohn's patient go this long without a flare up?
Thanks!
Mark
