Looking for email buddy for colitis support

Wed, March 06, 2013 5:33 PM

Hello,

My best friend (34 yo female) has suffered from ulcerative colitis for the past 5 years.  It has progressively gotten worse over the last few months.  While she has seen many doctors, I feel what is missing is a relationship with someone else going through a similar experience whom she can help/support and as a result help herself at the same time.  She is a caring compassionate person who loves sending long emails and getting to know others.

I understand that there is a world of support in these boards but I know she would be more committed to speaking/ exchanging thoughts with a single individual.  If there is another female in a similar position interested in a weekly/biweekly non-judgmental  email relationship, please let me know.

Hope I am not breaking any rules by doing this, just trying to help.

Thanks!

Hello everyone!

A fellow UC patient here. Diagnosed at age 33, I'm now 44.  9 of those 11 years I have been in remission. One year I was put into the hospital for a week due to complications from UC and I am now going through a flare - possibly due to a medication change.  I will have to wait until Friday to hear from my GI doctor.  Not exactly what I wanted for Christmas.

To the original poster, you'll find that everyone's story is different and what works for one person does not work for another.

I hate the symptoms that accompany a flare-up.  They make me feel weak.

I am so glad to see this post as one of the first few I read on here. That is one of the questions I have been asking myself over and over is will this ever get better. I would like to talk via email if that would be ok. My email is lindsey.stevens.87@gmail.com

Three attitudes I have to maintain;  that stay the same over the years;
counting and saying thank you for my blessings everyday, and more on a tough day,
forgiving myself, and others, as a rule for peace of mind,
and, a "can do attitude as I repeat lifestyle adjustments, or discover I still can learn something new.

Last year I broke my are making my dominate arm immobile 8 weeks, and another 8 gaining movement, and strength back.  This was a fear financially, and professionally. Amazing how you can learn to use your non dominate side, and legs to get things done. Including things related to UC with IPAA... Bathroom, dressing comfortably, keeping clean, fatigue...etc. I wouldn't want to cope with something like that alone again.  It seems important to be more concerned with mutually supportive relationships.

I'm  most curious about strategies related to dating, helping helpful with friends, and family be aware of special needs, and getting things done a head of time for those days you feel yuck.

My name is Joe. I was diagnosed with UC at age 5. It went into remission for several years only to have the IBD pop its ugly head up several years later. This time the doctors diagnosed it as Crohn's. I can't say it's been fun. I can only say it's been a challenge, and you have to be strong. But it is hard, sometimes impossible, to articulate the sheer complexity of what you experience. I've been through a lot -- medications, surgeries, doctors (good and bad) -- so I do have a broad range of experiences. Feel free to contact me at porterjoseph@hotmail.com. I only ask that you do NOT send me any chain emails. (I really hate those things.)

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck!

Joe

I am a 38 yr old female..who was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in the year of 2005..it took 2 years to Diagnose me Properly...i first had my gallbladder removed on May 17 th 2004.....i kept vomiting..and thought it was due to my Gallbladder..but part of it was at first, thinking that we had it licked!, Nope! thought wrong!...couple weeks later.i was back at it again....
For Months i wasnt able to keep food down..when i start to vomit, i'm the kind of person that cant stop once i start..and i get to the dry heaving part..and i end up in the hospital for a couple days or they pump fluids in me and send me home.
One day my family Doctor, decides that enough is enough, and sends me back to my surgeon who removed my gallbladder, anyways. to make the story short...i was scheduled shortly after for a colonoscopy, that day, it was 2005..i was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.
August 7th 2009, i was diagnosed with Crohns Disease and Type 2 Diabetes....its been 4 yrs now...and 8 for the u.c..and i have been officially declared in Remission from both Diseases. i don't use my email to email others, i only use it to keep facebook. but i am willing to talk with anyone on their..if they are able to chat on fb..i check messages on their easily..but because of my busy schedule with Drs Appointments, and so forth...it makes it hard to keep up with emails..so..Anywho...i would love to make friends with those ..of the community !...

i am known as AnnaMarie Shelton on facebook account, my real name is Tracy..but i currently use my Middle name..

I am also a 34 year old single female who has had ulcerative colitis for over 10 years. I think having an "email buddy" who is going through similar struggles would be beneficial. It's so easy to feel alone with our struggles.

I was diagnosed in 2007 with severe to moderate Ulcerative Pan Colitis, I don't know anyone else who has it, and even though my friends and family try to understand they don't,  I would love to have someone else to talk to about just the everyday living with this disease!  vixen5262@hotmail.com
