being sick with Crohns and and absent  from my jobs has caused me to lose many jobs in the past even though it is suppose to be illegal to fire someone with Crohns (legal disability). I am in that position once again and I do not know what to do. I have been told if I am out one more time in the next 6 months I am fired and this is working for a Hospital. I am complete upset and I have no where to turn for help.

I'm depressed and tired of this. I do a good job but i get sick and out the door they shove me and in this economy I can't afford to lose this job. I am in my 50's and it gets harder and harder to find a job. It took me two and half years to find this job after being let go from my last job of 6 years.

Does anyone out there have any ideas or help/

I have been employed in the same industry for 24 years. I have been with the company I am at now for 8 years. I have been so sick and am very worried about loosing my job. I know, I would like to think I still do my job well, however crohn,s has effected my concentration and my drive. I am a manager and cannot think clearly half of the time and it showes. The company I work for has been ok so far with me. Being on salary helps. I just wonder when they will find a reason to fire me. I have no energy to work. On Friday my joints hurt along with many trips to the bathroom. i did not accomplish anything at work. I basically hid out most of the day. I went home after work and besides many bathroom breaks I slept until 1:30 Saturday.

My question is who do you see about being legally disabled? I want to work, however I fear I may not be able to maintain. I understand a company cannot pay someone for using the bathroom. ( I would be rich).

Ditto about establishing your disability. I also had to do this in order for my employer to back off when I was in need of flexibility and to work from home sometimes. Once your disability is established, the company  has to put in writing how they will attempt to "reasonably accommodate you. When I was having issues, I was shocked that my company (10,000+ employees) told me that they had NEVER been in this situation before (needing to accommodate a disability) and didn't have any idea how to handle it. Sadly, even CCFA had no advice! I'd definitely like to explore this issue more with others who work and have IBD.
You shouldn't have to lose your job for being sick more than other people, as long as you get your job done!

Hi, I guess the best thing you could do is look into laws against firing people with disabilities such as crohn's disease or cancer. if you can't afford an lawyer look into legal aid and they might help you

I know its a hassle in most states. And sometimes people even have to apply numerous times. But have you tried applying for disability? What is your current treatment plan? Seems like things aren't going to well for ya.. :(
