It's been a while since we posted. Things got bad for a while. My daughter lost 30 pounds in 3 months. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks. During that time, she was on TPN. She had a capsule biopsy done. She had a colonoscopy that was negative. Her pain and nausea was worse when she was discharged. We went to another emergency room 2 weeks later. They called her back to rule out appendicitis (again). They admitted her. Had a surgeon see her. Repeat ct scan was negative. But it did show inflammation but they weren't sure what it was. They had psych see her again. Told it was all in her head. She was sent home with Tylenol and Zofran. We changed primary doctors because the previous one made rude comments at the nurses station that some of my coworkers heard (I'm a nurse). This past Monday, she vomited and had her pain start again. Zofran didn't help. Her new doctor sent her to the emergency room for fluids and Zofran for her cyclic vomiting. As she was getting ready to go home, her pain intensified and she vomited everywhere. They sent her for a STAT ct scan. They had a surgeon come see her. We explained to her that the pain and vomiting has been ongoing for 4 years. The pain was always in the right lower quadrant. This surgeon is a friend of mine. She took her to the operating room. Guess what! The appendix was thick and hard as a rock. Her cecum (above appendix) was thick. A portion of her bowel is thickened as well. She was also able to visualize her IBD in motion. She removed the appendix and felt the rest of her bowel looking for anything else that could be wrong. My daughter came home last night. Although sore from surgery, she is finally able to rest. Has anyone else dealt with chronic appendicitis with the IBD? We asked about thus years ago and were told it doesn't exist. Quite a few hospitals will be hearing from me.
