More Than a Caregiver

Not only am I a caregiver to 2 of my children with Crohns, but both my brothers have it as well as myself. Luckily my oldest daughter and myself have not had to experience severe flares, but both my brothers are on disability because of it and my youngest daughter was just given the diagnosis yesterday. She has been suffering and it is hard to watch. After being on pentasa for the 3 weeks following her colonoscopy with no big change in her well being, her GI put her on prednisone, flagyl and 6-mp. New territory for us and it scares me.

chronicchill, I know exactly how you feel. My son has had crohn's for 17 years and I am his father and the only one who has supported him. He is in a bad way right now in the hospital. I just started looking today for guidance on how to handle the problems that we are running across with the hospital. He has nothing and NV is dragging their tail in approving his medicaid. Good luck to you all. If you have any advice or pointers I'll gladly take them.

Don't be scared. How is she responding to treatment now?--your daughter?

Please forgive me if this sounds callous at all, but it's good in a way that your family is sharing this experience. You'll take her seriously with her symptoms and you'll defend her at doctor's offices and it sounds like no one in your family is ever going to call her a hypochondriac.

I'm sure you already know, but for me--I'm pending a diagnosis--beyond the physical pain, grieving loss of health, the chronic diarrhea, etc. - it is the doubt and downplaying of symptoms from some, if not most, of my so-called friends, family, loved ones, co-workers--that is the most emotionally painful.

Your daughter will be hopefully be spared that emotional pain.
