Insurance for young adults with Crohn's Diseas

Sat, November 07, 2015 9:47 PM

My son is 28 and must find new health insurance.  He currently has a low paying job with no benefits.  His biggest concern is that he will no longer be able to get Humira for his Crohn's Disease if he signs up for the Affordable Care.  If he goes off the Humira, he's been told he may not be able to go back on it later when he gets a better job with insurance because of antibodies. Has anyone else had this problem?  Any suggestions?  What can he do?

He says there will probably be a generic version of Humira coming out in the next few years but he'll have a gap in his treatment if he has to stop now.  He only has enough Humira for a couple more months.

I certainly hope your son is able to stay on his medication.

My son is 25 and will be off our insurance late 2016.  However, due to not being in remission, he is unable to work.  I have huge concerns over insurance for him and maintaining his team of physicians, all his meds, tests, etc.

What are the options, if anyone knows in  CA, for people with Crohn's, who can't work?  What are the options for private insurance, if any?

Go on Humira's website.  They have a prescription program and it is very discounted. I used to pay just $5 and they don't ask financial questions as far as income in concerned.

Good Luck
