Supporting Loved Ones from a Distance

Thu, August 08, 2024 11:23 AM

If you have a friend or loved with IBD who lives far away from you, here are some tips for encouraging and supporting them from a distance.   If you have more tips, post them.

  • On test or infusion day or the day after send a meal or two to the home via a meal delivery service or send an  e-gift card
  • Send a grocery order to their home via grocery delivery service
  • Send a calming podcast or video link that they can listen to or watch during their infusion
  • Hire a maid/cleaning service to help tidy up things around the house
  • Bake cookies or healthy snacks and send them so that they arrive the day or two before or after treatment.  See gut friendly recipes for some options https://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/patientandcaregivers/gutfriendlyrecipes
  • Send a journal.   You write in the first date with your personal note expressing your love and support

These are such thoughtful and practical tips for supporting someone with IBD from afar! I especially love the idea of the calming podcast or video link - little things can make a big difference.
