IV iron

Wed, November 11, 2009 1:00 AM

My son was diagnosed with crohns in October 2008.  He has been doing great with the exception of severe anemia that will not get better.  The doctor recommended IV iron at my son's appointment yesterday.  My husband and I took him to the hospital today for his first infusion.  He did fine.  Has anyone else had to do this?  It is frustrating because he is doing so good in terms of very very few symptoms, but his blood work remains bad ie iron defiecient and anemic.

I recommend using a chewable iron supplement.  My 6 year old son couldn't tolerate the liquid (made him violently ill) and I found this on the internet.  He likes it, it stays down, and his hemoglobin wenr from 8 to 11 in a month!  Here is the link
