Colazal- anyone on it?

Tue, January 12, 2010 1:00 AM

Any of your kids on Colazal?

Looking for any info about it, how long you have used it, how you give it to your kids.

Thanks!

Just an update-

the Colazal did not work my daughter. She apparently can't tolerate any 5asa's.

She only took 2 pills of Colazal before the diarrhea started- it then takes her about 3-4 days for the effects to leave her system.

Not sure what is next...

Hello -

My son was on it for 4 years.  He has taken it in apple sauce and in Gatorade as well as swallowing the pills whole.  He took 3 or 4 350 mg pills 3 times a day.  He had no side effects.

He suffered a sever flare this past summer - doesn't take it anymore.  We had to move to a stronger drug.

Good luck to you and your child.   Tracy

I just read your previous post as well - my son did pentasa for a while as well - Colazol is powder not granules so it just mixes up fine - turns the applesauce or whatever you use orange and does stain very easily but my son has no complaints on the taste or texture - hope that helps

My son is 4 and has been on it for about a year.  He was taking 350mg 3x a day so I would open the pills and put half in a spoonfull of applesause.  He had no side effects at all while on it.
