Fevers

Fri, April 16, 2010 7:15 AM

My daughter is 13 and has been on Remicade for about 15 months (she was diagnosed with CD in 2006.)  She was doing well on Remicade, but now has been getting low-grade fevers on and off for about a month now.  She has loss of appetite and diarrhea, as well as being extremely tired.  Have had her to the pediatrician several times, and they cannot diagnose an infection.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you so much for the info.  The problem is the doctors are not sure either if it is viral or related to the Crohn's disease.  Found out today that my daughter has to have another colonoscopy to find out what you just told me.  Thanks again.

If the docs are sure there isn't an infection she just may be in a flare and the medication not covering her. First of course is to sure there's no infection or abscess anywhere.

Along with inflammation can come extreme fatigue and fever, much like rheumatoid arthritis or other conditions where there is a lot of inflammation. If she's having diarrhea that may be another indication.

A reaction to the medication should be ruled out as well. Some people get diarrhea and fevers even with antibiotics. I wouldn't give up, but know fatigue and low grade fever is common IBD.
