How long has your child been on it?

Is it working?

Side effects?

My daughter is on Pred and just started 6-MP to get off the Pred.

so far we are still having liquid diarrhea- not sure if we will need to increase the Pred at this point...ughhhhhhh!

Love to hear from you!

How are your kids doing (everyone that posted regarding this).

Do any of you experience that is Prednisone is not as effective as it used to be? My son is now on his 4th round of Prednisone over a year & a half span to help put him back into remission and this time it's not like it used to be. 5 days of 20 mg would do it and now it's been over 2 weeks. he's 5 yrs old and has UC.  Just wondering if others experience this.  It took 6 months for the 6mp to kick in for my son and he was tkaing Pentasa with it until all levels were good. Then a flare up came on and back to prednisone, then wean, and the cycle would start again. Not a fun disease as you know. Glad we have this forum to find others in same situation. Thanks,  my email is:  mylittleguyuc@ymail.com

My daughter is 6.  She has been on 6MP since diagnosis June 2009.  She had a lot of trouble weaning from prednisone but finally weaned in December and has done great ever since.  We really haven't noted any side effects from 6MP (as we all know, the steroids were another story) but it takes a minimum of 3 months to get to a therapeutic level.  When they checked my daughter's levels at 3 months, she still wasn't "there" so it took a couple of more months before it really began to work.

I hope it works well for your son.  We are thankful that it seems to be working and to have the steroids g-o-n-e!

My son (age 7) has been on this for almost 9 months, almost since diagnosis.  He also weaned off predinsolone (twice now) and we hoped the 6-MP would keep him in 'remission'.  His dose was increased 2nd time around.  We are waiting to see how he does right now.  He is off prednisolone for 2 weeks now.  If he starts to worsen again, we will being enteral nutrition to try for remission.  We will not do anymore steroids for a while...he needs to catch up on growth....
