Anyone have a child on Omega3 supplements?

Mon, April 26, 2010 12:00 AM

Hello,

I have a 5 year old son with UC and I would like to start him on an Omega3/fish oil supplement.  I am not sure how much is appropriate for a child his age.  I would appreciate any suggestions on this.

Thanks,
Sandy

I think it is  more important to reduce omega 6 oils than to supplement with omega 3. Since removing all refined oils from my diet and only using butter, animal fats and some cold-pressed olive oil my health has greatly improved.

There has been some recent research suggesting that a high intake of sunflower oil which is very high in linoleic acid (I think the right one?) increases the risk of  uc.

Yes, my whole family takes Omega 3.   We take "Coromega 3 Squeeze".    I buy it on-line through Vitamin Shop.com (it is cheaper that way, even w/shipping) that direct from their standalone store.   What's nice about the squeeze packet is they come orange flavored and don't have any hint of "fishy" after taste.   I also store them in the fridge.  The kids think they taste best cold (whatever works).

Hope this helps.
