Problems getting to the right level of Imuran

Mon, April 26, 2010 12:00 AM

Have any of you ever had a hard time getting your child to the therapeutic level with Imuran or 6mp?  My son started at 25mg per day and the numbers were low so we up'd him to 50mg per day and I just spoke to the doc today and he says the numbers are still low.  He has been on it for 8 weeks now, I know the level is supposed to be between 230 and 400, he is only at 139 right now.  He is only 5 and I really dont want to go any higher that 50mg per day. If anyone has ever experienced this I would love to hear your story. You can reply to my post or email directly at jcraig007@comcast.net

My daughter was 6 when we started 6MP and had the same problem.  They didn't up the dose but added Pentasa which was supposed to help her metabolize the 6MP differently.  It worked but the Pentasa bothered her liver.  We stopped the Pentasa before she had any symptoms or anything and fortunately, the 6MP had reached a therapeutic level.  Not sure if that helps at all but maybe there's an option like that for the Imuran???

We'll be thinking good thoughts for your little one.
