Adrenal Insufficiency???

Fri, March 18, 2011 8:15 PM

Has anyone ever done any research on Adrenal Insufficiency and UC or Crohns?? I stumbled upon it and there can definately be a link! I urge any of you who are like me (always doing research) to look in to this.  After what I have read I really feel that an appointment with an Endocrinologist might be a good idea for my son who is 6yrs old and has UC since he was 2yrs old.  Please let me know what you all think once you have looked in to this a bit.

Yes, my son has had Crohn's and was on Prednisone twice, once for almost a year. Years later, he ended up being very ill with abdominal pain and vomiting for about 5 months. He was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency a few monthss later. Never stop investigating and studying!

Hi Sandy:  I would agree.  Since Prednisone is the "rescue" drug and is produced naturally by the Adrenal glands, it makes total sense that an Adrenal insufficiency could be an issue.  Very interesting, I'd like to know how things go.
