2.5 yr old on Imuran

Sat, March 19, 2011 10:07 PM

Hello all;

Its sad to say they have put my baby on  Imuran. Chemo basically, He started on it a little over two weeks ago. His first set of labs came back and everthing is good so far. He's had trouble with sleeping and his eating has decrease dramatically. So they are implementing perractin into his medicine regeimen. It was Flagyl 1ml, Predislone 1ml, Imuran 2ml all once day. Now it's just .5ml of Predislone, Imuran 2ml and 2.5 ml of the Perractin once a day. The Perractin is suppose to stimulate his appetite and help with his sleeping disorder. I'm very relucant in giving him these meds but, they say he has to have long term care. I've simply come to the conclusion that Crohn's is as close to Cancer as these letter's are on this screen. It's just really bad that  my baby and he is just a baby, has to endure this aweful disease.

Let me first say, I apologize to anyone that was or is offended by my statement. I thought this was a place to vent. That seems to be a contridiction. How can you say you understand then be offended when  a statement is made...Ummm?  I am very positive around my son, with my son. My son is the Honored Hero for CCFA Take Steps because of my positivity,advocacy, and commitment to this illness.

There are alot of people who have Cancer and live long healthy lives also. But  just like Crohn's it goes into remisson. Cancer may or may not come back just like a flare can happen or may not happen. If your son is on Imuran you know that just like a Cancer patients they have to have their blood check on a regular basis because of the WBC count.

So here, again I am not being negative just a realist! And know that just because someone says something does not make them negative! Their just venting. This is my one and only child. This was the child I was told that I could not have. When I found out I was pregnant I was 4mths, and told it would be a high risk preganancy.  I took care of my self, at all the right foods, balance diet etc. Even prayed for a healthy, happy intelligent child. And you know what, that's exactly what I got! Yeah there a few bumps in the road, but  through God's grace and his Mercy we will get through.

You really need to try to be more positive for your son.  Crohns is no where near what Cancer is.  People with Crohns and Colitis can have very long and active lives.  There will just be bumps in the road every now and again.  Thinking of Crohns like Cancer will get you no where but depressed.  My son who is 6 now but was diagnosed at 2 is also on Imuran (60mg) for over a year now with no side effects at all.  I know it is hard to be positive during the tough times (I have been there many times with my son) but things always get better!
