Stomach problems in the past?

My sister, Jennifer, who I adopted, was diagnosed in 2009 with UC. She failed to respond to any treatment and ended up having her colon removed. Jennifer was not recovering and after three weeks she died from blood clots in her lungs.
Through our research we have found no "real" cause for her illness, which has left me with more questions than answers. One thing that kept coming up in my mind is when she was a baby she had severe colic for about nine months. As she got older, starting at about 3 years old, she had intestinal issues that would come and go. The doctors treated the symptoms but never came up with a cause. These 'bouts' of vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation continued and got worse until her diagnosis in 2009.
What I am wondering is if there is any connection between any of these events and her final diagnosis. If there is any sort of correlation perhaps it could be caught earlier and treated in others.
I am hoping people here can help me out a little. Has anyone had a history of stomach problems or colic when they were younger. Any information would bve greatly appreciated either way. A yes or a no would be helpful figuring out if there is any correlation between her history and her diagnosis.

I think the "Colic Dx" may have been yet another mis-diagnosis. Babies who are colic just cry unconsolably, and unfortunately they are infants and can't tell us what the problem is.
My daughter was very sick from infancy....Unfortunately, sleepless nights, many baths, and lots of dirty diapers. The doc thought she too had colic. In hind sight she must have been in excruciating pain. She was hospitalized and misdiagnosed a number of times until she was finally diagnosed at age 4. I had never even heard of Crohns. It wasn't for another 5 years that I too was diagnosed.
May your sister rest and God bless you for being there. Your story brought tears to my eyes.

Oh my, what a story. I cannot even begin to imagine. Honestly, I would say as for history, it's everything! One of the most important, if not the most important things in when trying to diagnose any disease is history. I had stomach issues all my life but never really had anything that severe until I was in high school. Now I am nineteen. So, there is definitely a correlation between the two I think. Proving that is something that would be quite hard to do.
