UC and childbirth?

I wondering if women with colitis have had issues trying to get pregnant or after being pregnant, experience complications because of the disease?

I'm pregnant and have Crohn's.  Had some trouble getting pregnant (low hormones) but some mild hormone pills helped that.  I definitely talked to my GI doc and OB/GYN before trying to get pregnant to be sure my disease was well controlled before trying, also to check on what drugs I should think about changing or staying on during pregnancy.

I have heard that flares after delivery are not uncommon due to changes in the mom's immune system, but being prepared for that with a pre-scheduled GI appointment for soon after delivery might help head off the worst of the symptoms...?

As far as delivery goes, generally vaginal birth is fine unless you've had previous surgeries that might indicate otherwise.  Ask you docs if that's the case.

Best of luck to you!
