I was diagnosed in my early 20's with IBD -- prednisone and diet helped for many years to keep things pretty well under control. Now, later in life, it's come roaring back. Lots of obstructions, lots of problems with foods. Lots of medication allergies. Diet helps, but, it seems the only foods I can tolerate are high calorie carbs, with their attendant weight gain. Anyone have ideas for someone over 60? Help!

I had the same issue with weight gain. I tried to work out and adjust my diet but nothing worked. In fact working out just irritated my disease even more and my doctor finally advised me to not work out. The only thing I can tell you is that if you are having obstructions you may want to consider surgery. I had blockages on and off for about 7 years and finally agreed to the surgery. I have since lost 25 pounds. Now when I eat I just eat smaller portions. I truly believe that portion control can work for you also. Eat what doesn't hurt you whether it's high calorie or not. Just try to only eat a small plate or child portion. You will become accustom to eating less after about 20 days. Drink plenty of water too. It''s astonishing how much sugar is in some of the things we drink. I also walk a lot more now, since that's really the only thing that doesn't kick off my symptoms. I hope this information can help you too. All the best.
