Always hungry and bloated

Wed, May 01, 2013 9:55 AM

I'm a 52 year old female, 5' 3" and I'm the heaviest I've ever been.
I've been as low as 88 lbs at my sickest.

I've had my total colon removed and have a Pelvic Pouch due to Ulcerative Colitis and I had tried many many drugs, mainly prednisone
my surgeries were done in 2 stages, Sept 1987, Nov 1987
I had adhesions and needed emergency surgeries in May 1989, March 1992
I'm limited to what I can eat as too much fiber, skins on veg's and fruits, raw veg's and fruits cause obstructions
I'm also Lactose Intolerant and have Salicylate Sensitivities
I have been taking a probiotic VSL#3 for many years to control Pouchitis.  I use this instead of being on Cipro permanently

I've had 2 back surgeries as a physio therapist ruptured my disc and I needed emergency surgery, Aug 1994, Aug 1996.
I lost the use of my bladder for almost a year and have Cauda Equina Syndrome. I'm limited to what exercises I can do.

My main issues are: I'm always hungry, don't feel full which is why I'm gaining weight. As you know I'm only able to eat the white stuff, white rice, white potatoes, white pasta etc.  My tummy is bloated and I have hot flashes all the time.

I've been to Dieticians, Nutritionists, Homeopaths, Naturopaths and still no better. I'm hoping someone may have some suggestions for me. I know I'm a complicated case, but, I'm always hopeful and will never give up trying to get answers.
It's extremely frustrating for me, trying different options and not seeing results!

Medications:
Synthroid  - 1/day (for thyroid)
B12  - 1/day
Vit D -  - 3/day
Calcium Citrate -  - 3/per day
Doxepin - - 2/day or as needed (for salicylate sensitivity- I get extremely itchy)

I know that when I have taken vitamin D and B12 that I am always hungry. I think it's something to do with them increasing your metabolism but I'm not sure. I am also dealing with being bloated and hungry while gaining weight. Definetly not fun! I'm going to try a new clean eating diet to see if that helps; I want to start a blog about my journey. Ill let you know if I have any changes!

Couple ideas, if you haven't gone through menopause... That might be part of the problem.... If it is, you can do hormone replacement therapy, but I don't know if would recommend it with your health history, and you limited ability to work out, among other things it increases your risk for blood clots, heart attack and stroke among other things... Another though, have your thyroid levels checked... These suggestions are based on your symptoms of hunger and hot flashes... Good luck, hope you find relief
