Food sensitivity tests - IGG and IGE

Sun, July 07, 2013 1:14 PM

Hi ,

How far can we rely on these tests? My son had food sensitivity tests ( both IGG and IGE) from two different labs. Both the results are conflicting with each other. which results to believe. He has a known shell fish allergy only (IGE) ..but  the lab tests combined together shows delayed food sensitivity (IGG) to many other foods .. when both labs results are considered, he will have absolutely nothing to eat .. my question is , if one lab results are conflicting with other lab's results, whom/which to believe?

regards,
Rekha

The best lab for the top  food offenders measures IgA antibody levels. The only one in the country right now who does that is Enterolab.

My understanding is that lab to lab comparison is difficult and tends to be unreliable due to the differences in lab standards of non-IgE testing.  For a proper comparison the two labs need to use the same method for measuring the allergy or inflammation.  I would think its best to pick a lab that test a broad spectrum for example; IgG, IgA, IgM, Type III immune complex, Type IV cell activation.  Metametrix, Genova and others provide this.
But more important than any test listen to your body don't let a piece of paper or a white coat tell you something you already know.
