Trying new things

Thu, July 18, 2013 10:24 PM

I am not sure what makes me sick, some of everything I guess. I have not had fried food in a while. I have even let go of my father's barbeque, it I think causes me to be sick cause it can be greasy at times. I do eat some fruit, but I am not really interested in eating fruit. I drink plenty of water, more than I should at times. I am eating smaller meals, one because my stomach does not hold a lot. I will continue to read the messages, I feel I can really learn from them.

We worked with a nutritionist when my daughter was first diagnosed.  It sounded silly at the time, but she had us begin a food journal.   Doing so helped figure out which foods were a good match and which weren't.   Also jotting down the way the food was prepared helped as well.  After several meetings with the nutritionist we figured out the recommended smaller / more frequent meal suggestion helped as well.  It is a trial and error process, but once its figured out life is more enjoyable.   Good luck in your food journey.

Here is what has worked for me.
Gluten-free. I do not have celiac disease, but was symptom-free for a year by just making this change.
Recently, eliminated lactose (easy compared to gluten). Aged cheese seems to be OK.
No artificial sweetener. And all vegetables are cooked, no more salad. I eat some fruit, mostly bananas. Watch out for peels.
I have diahrrea predominent Crohn's.

Thanks for the reply. i am trying to do better myself, but it is really hard to do. I however have another dilemma. I have been having accidents with my ostomy bag and I am mortified when this happens. I become an emotional wreck when this happens to me. I immediately become unglued and i shut all the way down. I do not want to talk to anyone. I want to go into hiding and never come back. I have these accidents in public places and before I know it I am covered with feces. I am so embarrassed, which causes me to cry and ask why me. I am a school teacher and I work at Walmart and it has happened on both jobs. I am not sure how to control my emotions. I am thinking about retiring and staying at home.  This causes me to not go places for fear that may have an accident. Please pray for me and my mental capacity.

Greasy foods, red meats and lactose always made me sensitive and felt very heavy so my doctor suggested a vegan diet and it has been working great! He also said i could slowly try new things to see how I react (for example consume a bit of cottage cheese for a week and pay very close attention to any symptoms)
