Question about consuming alcohol

Sat, August 03, 2013 9:39 PM

Hi, my name is Chris and it's been a little over a year since I got my surgery to treat my Ulcerative Colitis. I don't remember what the surgery was called, but it was a two-step surgery. They removed my large intestine and gave me a J-pouch and I had a bag for about 6 months. The second surgery was to do a reversal and reconnect my small intestine to the rectum. It's been a little over a year now and I'm feeling great. I have completely healed and have had no complications so far.

My question is, is it okay to occasionally consume alcohol? Is it bad for me or is it okay?

I had my colon removed (no reconnection) and I consume alcohol. Not everyday by any means....my surgery was July 10th, 2013.

Question for you about the reconnection...I have heard that many people who have the reconnection end up using the restroom much more often - have you experienced this? If so, how do you manage it?

A cousin in her 70's had the J-pouch surgery several years ago, and she is able to consume alcohol.  Hope this helps.
