Hi,

A few months ago, i consulted a naturopath (who is also a pharmacist) regarding my chrons symptoms and he recommended L glutamine to stop diarhea during acute phases of my disease, especially for diarhea. He told me to take 10 grams mixed with water ( idealy between meals) when i have a lot of liquid stool that i cant control trough my diet. It really worked well for me! More than i could imagine!

Its a great option if your physician is ok with it.

hope you get better well.

Viva--You're quite welcome! I should add one point about the fish oil: you should buy fish oil capsules that are both enteric-coated and molecularly distilled to remove impurities.

There have been no long-term, large-population studies attesting to the effectiveness of l-glutamine or any other food supplement in treating inflammatory bowel disease. Some small studies suggest a possible benefit. You might try it to see if it helps--it can't do any harm. Other supplements that might help are boswellia serrata extract, omega-3 fish oil and high-lignan flaxseed oil (both best taken in capsule form to maintain freshness). turmeric, phosphatidyl choline, and the proprietary blend of anti-inflammatory supplements in Zyflamend, sold by New Chapter. There are a number of good retail on-line sources for these kinds of supplements, including the Vitamin Shoppe, amazon.com, and Puritan's Pride. You should surf around to compare prices to get the best deal to minimize your expenses if you decide to try any or all of these.
