I am currently taking mercaptopurine and Humira for severe Crohns.  My blood tests came back very low, my wbc was at 1.6, because the meds brought them down so my GI cut y dose of 6mp to try to get  up. It only went up to a 1.8 :( My friend told me about a new nutrition company called ID life.  You fill out a 5 minute survey based on you, your current diet, exercise patterns, medications, ad illnesses, it is all HIPAA compliant. It develops a customized nutrition plan from over 7000 medical and scientific research studies. Since being on my customized nutrition plan my wbc has gone up to 4.6.  I ended up signing up as an associate with the company and my GI is giving my contact information to the rest of his patients for nutrition.  If you have any questions you can contact me at Pennstate@idlifeoffice.com

Hi there! I just read your request about information on supplements. I have been taking a multi nutrient and very potent anti-oxidant for over a year now with incredible results. I've been able to reduce my medication to the bare minimum (I'm on the lowest dose of Asacol at the moment).  If you would like further details, I would love to talk to you. You can always reach me at 908.902.0451.

All the best!

As a Crohn's patient you should follow a well balanced diet. Clean eating and Paleo are two that are very popular right now. There are also supplements that you can take to help with the absorption of nutrients.

Eating with ulcerative colitis and colon cancer should be based on a well-balanced diet that's high in protein, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, and good fats. Such a diet will provide you with energy and keep you well. Your diet may include meat, fish, poultry, and dairy products (if you don't have lactose intolerance); breads and cereals; fruits and vegetables; and margarine and oils. I hope it helps. :)

Because my body doesn't absorb nutrients well due to Crohn's, I try to take supplements to keep me healthy.  One of the supplements I take is magnesium, originally prescribed to me to help with hot flashes without the use of hormones.  I found that it also helped me keep fairly regular.  However, when my Crohn's is active (as it is now), I don't know if the magnesium is exacerbating the problem.  My doctort has suggested I increase my dosage (Azathioprine) to bring me back to remission, but I hate taking that immune suppressant in the first place.  So I don't want to increase my dosage.  Any thoughts?

I think you should stay away from processed and junk food. Even canned food is not good for you. Start with a healthy breakfast of fruits and cereals. You should also have green and fresh vegetables in your diet as well.

Hi! I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. As an UC patient, I try to stick to a very clean diet, meaning eating whole, non-processed foods- like lean protein, good-carbs and fats, fresh fruits, and vegetables. However, don't forget that decades of over-farming have depleted our soils, and food crops are depleted of many nutrients. So, for me, finding an excellent supplement regime has changed my life. Feel free to contact me if you would like more information. I would love to help out.

First of all, I am sorry for the health problems you have had to face. It takes a strong person to go through what you have been through.  Have you tried the SCD diet? Or the Paleo diet?  For me it is getting away from the processed foods. Bleached sugar. Candies, Cakes. You know, all good stuff. Eating meats and veggies. Eating desserts made with natural ingredients like Honey have helped me feel much better.
