I was diagnosed with Crohn's in August 2016. My gastro doctor has told me that I need to use glutamine supplement in helping to heal my colon. I have read that it can be fuel for tumors. Is this true?
He also suggested that I take fish oil.
I was taking both glutamine and fish oil for about 1 1/2 weeks and then suddenly began to have facial itching (almost like eczema - dry patchy). Could that possibly be related to either of these supplements? Or is it possible that it could be related to menopause since I had a complete hysterectomy in April of this year also?
When I first saw the gastro doc and he was suspecting Crohn's, he had me begin a gluten-free diet. This was in July.
Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response.
I also have felt better regarding more energy since starting the gluten free diet.
I was told by my pcm doctor that Crohn's can cause unexplained rashes. I have started the glutamine again about 2 weeks ago. Then, I started taking fish oil again this week. I have found that my stomach is more upset and I hurt more this week than I have been.
I still have not started a treatment plan. But am hoping to soon. I understand it should help me feel better. I hope that is the case.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is a naturopath?
I have been living with Crohn's for the past 25 years. I looked at changing my diet 8 years ago after having a resection and going to see a naturopath.
I am currently gluten free and "mostly" dairy free and I noticed very quickly that these simple changes made a big difference in how I felt. Also, the naturopath had me on glutamine supplement and fish oil. I found that I seemed to feel better with these, but after a few months I was not able to tolerate the fish oil any more (just couldn't process it, rushed right through the system) and found the glutamine made me nauseous.
I don't know about long term effects, or itchiness. I do recall hearing some discussion about negatives related to the glutamine on some discussion forums, but could not get anyone, doctor or naturopath, to give me any definitive information.
I would just suggest doing more research yourself and perhaps talking to other doctors, nutritionists, naturopaths to find out as much as you can.
hope this was somewhat helpful.
