Hi all,
pleasure to have found this forum and hopefully I'll be able to help people at some stage.
So a week ago I was diagnosed with mild CD in my small intestine. I had been loosing weight so was glad when I had a diagnosis.
I am 27, weight 9 stone 6 (132lbs) and live a Vegan lifestyle. The doctor has put me on steroids and Pentaza? in the first instance.
Hs any one got any advice on what food would be good to eat to build up my muscle mass as I am going to the gym but don't appear to be able to build any.
Thanks, Tom

Thanks for your message.
I'm sure you meant well but your message comes across as quite rude. I have been a Vegan for many years before being diagnosed so that will never change as it is one of the most important things for me. It's more than just about what you eat, it's a lifestyle.
It's a well known fact that the Vegan diet is actually one of the best and everything that can be found in animal products that is required to be healthy can also be found elsewhere.
In addition to my physical health, my spiritual wellbeing is also important which I get from not using animals in anyway.
Maybe try it one day and you will see the benefits? It definitely cuts the chances of getting cancer, over weight and diabetes. The World is slowly seeing the benefits to Veganism which helps people, animals and the environment. A win win in my book.
Best wishes, Tom

I don't think this is smart. Yes you eliminate animal products but you an inflammatory condition. Why on earth would you eliminate anti-inflammatory fish? You'd need to take eight fish pills a day if you take out fish. Fish oil is brain oil. If you don't eat fish your brain basically shrinks and your intestines flare. Also, you need cholesterol for the brain and for testosterone synthesis, and you get cholesterol from animal products. Honestly, you need to read. And A LOT. Then read some more. Vegans have a lot of problems and they trace back to inflammation. Read Toxic Fat by Dr Sears. Also read Dave Asprey "Head Strong"

Hi,
I am a 22 y/o female who was just diagnosed with severe UC in Sept. 2016. I recently just watched What the Health on Netflix.
My GI doctor had recommended I follow the SCD diet, which I began to religiously follow, I even bought my own yogurt maker.
Anyway, after watching the documentary on Netflix, I was absolutely astonished. The video has changed my perspective on food and I am now following a vegan diet.
I have found many great meat and dairy alternatives at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Target. I feel better after cutting out meat and dairy entirely, taking into account dairy tends to not work very well with me during flare ups.
There are tons of good resources online via social media as well, for example on Instagram I follow the @veganfatkid and he has great recommendations for food and protein powders from the "Vega" brand. @theminimalistbaker has a great account as well for vegan and gluten free recipes that are delicious!
After being recommended to go on the SCD and after having watched What the Health i truly believe food is powerful in healing the body. My goal is to continue with the diet in hopes of removing myself from all medication.
I have been dealing with UC on and off for the past 5 years (I have been on prednisone, Humira and hydrocortisone enemas and suppositories) and am hoping I can get into remission soon. Everyone will change their diet or make adjustments on their own time, but I highly recommend you and everyone else take a look at the video just to see how amazing food can heal the body.
I even found it in Spanish on youtube for my grandmother to watch!
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Welcome to the forum and glad that you have found us. I too suffer from mild to moderate Crohn's and eat a lot of lean protein: boiled eggs, nuts, chicken and fish. Nuts have a lot of good fats that help build fat and sustain energy. I am trying to lose weight so my goals are sort of opposite yours but eating healthfully is essential. Let us know how you are doing and maybe working with a personal trainer if you can afford it.
