Exercise & Diet (Ulcerative Colitis)

Tue, August 28, 2018 10:14 AM

Hello everyone,

my name is Stephen, I am new here but I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis little over a year ago and it has been a struggle with finding the right medicine right now I am on a low dose of 6mp, as well as a steriod enema and Remicade (double dose), still do not know if it is working my symptoms have subsided for now but still do not know if its just because of the steriods...

anyway just wanted to give a little background, things are somewhat stable so now i feel like i need to tackle the weight i have gained over the past almost two years i was at 215 which was getting so close to my ideal weight of 195 (I am 6'0) now i have gained alot of weight due to steriods and just being constantly hungry from them. Mixed with being tired it has been hard to workout and even eat right but now i want to make a change. I am just worried about the weight gain and want to be as healthy as I can be.

its harder on me to eat raw fruits and veggies, so my old diets of mostly salads with chicken are kinda out of the question. I was wondering if anyone who is suffering from Ulcertative Colitis has a good diet and exercise routine?

Hi Stephen,

I also had gained a lot of weight on prednisone. However, even though I have been off of it for two years now, I am still struggling to lose as much as I want.

I recently bought a juicer and am starting to drink celery juice every morning. I also recommend oolong tea and to drink a cup with two bags every morning and afternoon. This is supposed to speed up your metabolism.

I also do cardio for about 20 minute a day as my warm up and then weight train. I think it has been helping, but it’s hard to tell when I swell a lot. I also suggest trying to make sure you do drink at least 8 glasses of water a day!

When I realized prednisone was causing my weight gain I got rid of all the sweets and snacks and bought celery for the snacking.
