Vitamix Diet

Sun, December 29, 2019 10:30 AM

Have had Crohn’s for 40 years and currently doing well on Entyvio and methotrexate.  Just diagnosed with early Alzheimers and in an attempt to keep the disease from progressing my neurologist recommends I go on the MIND Diet which is similar to the Mediterranean Diet - lots of vegetables and lots of leafy greens and lots of fruits and berries.

I have never been on a particular Crohn’s diet but do not digest leafy greens or lightly cooked vegetables, and berries are a definite no-no due to the seeds.

Any thoughts as to whether blending it in a Vitamixer would pulverize stuff enough for a Crohn’s patient to handle a liquid version of the MIND diet?

I've been on a plant-based diet for 30+ years, and have been using the vitamix for the last 7-8 years to process Whole Foods down to what my Crohn's gut can handle (low residue). It's helped keep most symptoms at bay (diarrhea, bloating, etc.) and keeps me energized enough to stay on top of exercise (daily workouts, jogging, skating). The other cooking appliance I depend on is the instant pot pressure cooker. I use it to cook Whole Foods down to extremely soft so that I can eat them. I usually add a few extra minutes cooking time to whatever recipe to further break down food texture.

hello! i have crohns and i love making drinks in the vitamix with berries, baby spinach and water. sometimes i add a banana or other fruits too. i find i can tolerate the drinks most of the time, as long as i don't make a huge glass. and definitely make sure you blend long enough so everything is smooth. i hope this helps!
