Food Senstivities Test

Tue, January 28, 2020 12:35 PM

I’m recently diagnosed and had surgery in December. I had my first appointment post-surgery with the GI doctor a few weeks ago. I mentioned I was seeing a dietician and I was going to be doing a food sensitivity test. I understand that I am not going to cure my Crohn’s with diet alone and I need to take the medication, but food has to pass through the affected area, so seems like it can’t hurt to figure out what my body likes and doesn’t like. The doctor completely dismissed the food sensitivity test and seeing a dietician in general. She pretty much said eat whatever you want and take the meds.

Has anyone else done a food sensitivity test and used it to help control your gut?

Thanks! I did the food sensitivity test through my dietician. It was a blood test and it tested 150 different foods, spices and chemicals. The results were really interesting. I'm on a six week diet plan based on the results. I’m just over one week in and I've been feeling really good. This is also in combination with starting Humira but I really think they have to work together. The test/diet is called the LEAP- Personalized ImmunoCalm Diet Program.

Ive gone through a bunch of tests and had the same idea as you. Figure out what aggravates my body so as not to cause more of a burden while its healing. All doctors were completely dismissive as well. Truth is with sensitivity tests is that they are only looking for things that will cause anaphalaxis (life threatening). This is what allergist explained to me (she is well respected in her field as well as an educator). Problem is that they know so much they become dismissive and do not treat people holistically. It's your right to figure out what your body is not liking and remove it from your diet. I am also going to get a dermatology patch test to see what chemicals are an issue and remove them if any.
Fact: studying diets in people is very complicated and can even be unethical. It's not like they can look people in a room and feed them a specific diet. People also lie on their Food Frequency Questionaires or do not properly record what they eat so it makes collecting data on diets very complicated.
Do what you need to do and advocate for yourself and ignore them all. It's harmless (as long as you dont restrict to the point of nutrient deficiency). Good luck!!!
