My 19 year old daughter has Crohn's as is trying the SCD diet. She just started it so we do not yet know the results. Here is our dilemma. She goes back to a college dorm in February. Does anyone have suggestions for how you sustain a diet like this when you are forced to take a meal plan from the school? She does have an allowance to pre-order her food because of her Crohn's; however, her selections are still limited. As you can guess, their cafeteria is heavy on sugars and carbs. They also believe raw salads and cooked broccoli are the only valid vegetables on this earth. I know they are playing to college kids preferences, but still a challenge with SCD.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

It won't be easy because carbs are the cheapest food for mass catering. Can she have eggs for breakfast or ham/cheese with an apple or ripe banana?
Any type of plain roast or grilled meat or chicken with extra vegetables is suitable and she should add butter to the veg if possible as catered food is usually low fat. If the diet works she will be able to eat the salads and broccoli but probably not at the start. A small fridge in her room might make a difference as she could keep her own supply of cold meat, mature cheese, legal fruit juice etc.
It's not a cheap or easy diet for students but it is really worthwhile. My health has been almost normal for the last 4 years on scd and still improves when I look back. Lots of good wishes
