I need advice on fruits and vegetables!!!

Tue, January 25, 2011 3:47 PM

Hi.  Right now I stick to a low fat, low residue diet and it definitely helps.  I definitely don't eat healthy as far as fruits and vegetables.  I make banana bread and chocolate applesauce cake from an ibs cookbook and it has become a staple in my house.  I am getting a little bit of vitamins from them but not enough.  I read mangos are pretty safe and also bananas. Please give me some suggestions!! I am scared to try anything again because I am so afraid of getting sick.  With my flares comes tons of nausea which I cannot stand!!  I suffer from crohn's, ulcerative colitis, and ibs.  Thanks so much I reall appreciate any input.

The following have been okay for my daughter:

cooked/baked (until REALLY soft) and pealed: squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, broccoli, peaches, pears, apples, apple sauce (check label, no sugar added),

raw and pealed: cucumbers (cut seeds out), avocados, banana, pureed mango

Great smoothie: banana, mango, nonfat yogurt, nonfat lactaid, and a little honey.

Good luck!

I'm with you on fruits and veggies. I can not eat any veggies at all cooked or not and fruit is very limited. I eat applesauce and very rarely I will have a banana but for the most part fruits do not work for me either. Another thing is it seems to vary on what bothers me when. Some thing might bother me now but be okay later and vice versa. You will have to see what you can handle but you may just have to do a vitamin. Or you could always try making a juice from veggies. I haven't tried that because I am also afraid to try things but I know others who do. Good luck to you!

**Disclaimer, everyone is different so what might be safe for one may not be for another it is up to you to figure it out.  The following is just guidelines**

Cooked or steamed and pealed is a good way to indroduce fruits and veggies.

Good starter veggies...

Squash (good in soups), cucumbers, avacodes (really a good fat), soft carrots, fermented veggies, baby butter lettuce.  If you can tolerate this then you can try everything as long as it is cooked.  If things go when they you move on to certian raw veggies.

Good starter Fruits.. **Fruit has a lot of sugar so limit your fruit intake**

Bannana, mangoes, homemade pearsauce, homemade applesause, plums.

I would stay away from the acidic fruits like citrus and tomatoes until you are doing well.

Best of luck.
