GUACAMOLE?

Wed, June 27, 2012 7:00 PM

I put guacamole on grilled chicken and I think the guacamole messed up my stomach.
Is guacamole OK for colitis?

I've been there, completely devastated because I love guacamole. I've noticed (in particular with Wholly Guacamole brand), that there's an unnecessary amount of oil in the bag (literally, oil would pour out before the guac -- kinda gross). I've always attributed my symptoms to the oil, since I've also had symptoms with olive oil as well. Of course, avocados themselves have awesome essential oils, but I think the company and lots of other recipes for the homemade kind call for too much additional oil in order to achieve the right consistency.

The others are right though. So many things in guacamole that can irritate the belly.

Good luck!

Some things are good and some are questionable.

  • Avocados are great healthy fats.
  • Tomatoes (nightshades) can be problems.
  • Cilantro pulls mercury out of soft tissue and dumps it into your blood stream, where is then ends up in your intestines to be flushed out of your body. If your intestines are inflamed that is not going to be good.  When I make guacamole I use parsley instead of cilantro.  If I have any cilantro the next day everything gets flushed out.
  • Lime is good
  • Salt- hopefully sea salt ok
  • Onions - hit or miss with people.

You should test each ingredient separately to find out what bothered you.

I would say if your disease is active, try to stay away from that and any other veggies, fruits, seeds, nuts as much as possible.smiley
