Hi,
My 10 year old son has just been diagnosed with Uc. He has had a lot of joint pain  in his knees and ankles. Has anyone else experienced joint pain?
Do you experience alot of fatigue or ache body when in a flare?

Yes, my son is currently  on prednisone. He has been on it now for 2 weeks. We do try to get him to move about a little bit. He too has mostly knee pain. Today, praise the Lord he is moving around and seems to be feeling better! But we'll be on the pred for a while longer though.

Hi,
Is your son prednisone? Steroids have caused me joint pain and thinning of my bones. I have UC and have suffer with joint pain. Exercise has helped me tremendously. I know it is hard to exercise while dealing with a flare but it works. Most of the pain was in my knees. Yoga has helped me a lot. Try to get your son to exercise even if is only out for a walk. I hope this helps.

It really depends on your son's situation.  I have mild to moderate UC, I have been on prednisone and Lialda for approximately 3 weeks and I'm still managing through it.  My severe symptoms subsided in about 7 days.  I'm still having loose BM's about 5 to 7 times a day but I usually have relief during the day.  Mornings and nights are hard for me.

Please take a look at the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and a book called Breaking The Vicious Cycle.  They may help you along.  Also, try this website too:http://scdlifestyle.com/

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through a bad flare.
It is comfort to me to hear that others experience the same symptoms he does. I too felt like those symptoms were being overlooked. Does it take a long time to pull through a flare? We are still really new at this. Any info is helpful.

I'm so sorry about your sons joint pain.  I have had UC for 27 years and am currently managing through the worst flare of my life.  I too had horrible joint pain and body aches.  The doctor and pharmacist didn't seem to say much about it but it happened to me.  As my symptoms got under control, the pain lessened.  I hope it does for your son too.
