Nutritionist

Thu, February 07, 2013 2:57 PM

So today I went to see a nutritionist (advice from trainer) as I have been working out for the past month and have not lost a single pound. I don't eat a lot because I know that when I eat either one I am going to the bathroom or two I bloat up terribly.  She has referred me back to my specialist.

I am just so frustrated because I am having to go back. I have ulcerative colitis and I feel like its in remission. I have no urgency to go but there is mucus around my stools. She is sending me because of the bloating I am having.  So why would I need to go?

Can anyone please shed some light? I left in tears because I don't have an answer as to why I am not losing weight.

I just recently started with a nutritionist after having UC for 2 years.  I am also on Remicade and close to remission as well but not 100%.  My nutritionist suggested juicing which I started and I love it.  She did tell me to give it 6 weeks for the full healing time.  She also started me on protein shakes.  The protein I get is non whey,  non dairy vegan protein with peanut butter, coconut oil, fruit  ( I pick bananas) and almond milk not soy milk.  For food which I dont eat a lot of is steamed veggies, chicken, fish and thats about it!
Hope that helps...

I know how you must feel. I  was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2004. Until I finally got the right treatment, maintaining a lower weight was no problem (because I wasn't healthy, using  the restroom frequently, not able to absorb nutrients). Now that my symptoms are under control, I too have difficulty losing weight but I feel better without my symptoms.

When I was initially trying to get my symptoms under control, I was being more vigilant about my diet avoiding foods that contained chemicals that actually bloat your system and make you hungrier (e.g., high fructose corn syrup, gluten, and any chemical that you cannot pronounce). I began eating more foods that didn't have those ingredients (mostly organic foods), ate the same portions or more, and actually noticed weight loss without intending to.

I don't have to go all or nothing to notice a difference; just changing one thing a day or at each meal helps a great deal. My biggest saver in my diet has actually been a nutritional drink (you'll need to obtain from a registered dietician) called Ultra Inflam X by Metagenics. It is medically formulated to help people with severe digestive issues maintain their caloric intake and nutrition.

Having this supplement, drinking lots of water, or just eating and drinking water throughout the day can be very helpful. Avoiding high calorie and/or carbonated drinks and sugary foods that make you hungry later helps too. I'm sure you've been told this, but keep a journal about what makes you more bloated. It's different for everybody and it will be touch and go until you get more in tune to your own system. I hope this helped a bit. I know how frustrating things can be with digestive problems.

I suffered from UC for 3 1/2 and then started researching online. My husband was my donor and it has now been almost 4 months of being back to normal, having normal bowel movements - no gas, no cramps, no urgency, no blood, etc.  I am back to eating anything I want after 6 months on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I hav even been eating some things that are considered illegal on SCD, but with no problems.

If you would like to read my story and see links to other articles, email me.

Just don't give up thinking it is hopeless - there is another way. I am not on any drugs and completely symptom free.

These digestive issues are caused by a imbalance in the bacteria in your gut, most likely from antibiotic use or sometimes food poisoning.

Just google Fecal Transplant and you will find how it is being used to heal digestive issues - I had UC and it healed me.
