Need a protien shake?

Thu, April 04, 2013 5:47 PM

So, over the last 22 years that I have dealt with the symptoms of my Crohn's disease I have tried numerous shakes, countless meds, and tried EVERY diet!   And, I WISH I had known of how most of what I did actually fed the inflammation and kept me in a toxic and sick state!  However, better late than never, right?!  18 months ago I suffered my worst flare up to date.  It was awful!  I thought that I wasn't going to make it and that my young children would have to say goodbye much too soon!  I was willing to do ANYTHING my GI told me to.  The problem was that everything my GI told me to do didn't work!  I was on steriods, 6MP, Lialda, and a low-residue diet.  But it was all for not, because nothing stopped the flare-up.  Finally I was told about a vegan protein shake, except this one wasn't soy based, but instead had rice, pea and cranberry proteins instead.  It tasted great and was a welcome change to the low-res diet.  I also started a probiotic, prebiotic and ezyme blend and started working on DETOXing my body.  A few weeks later I was feeling SO MUCH BETTER and now I am off all of the drugs I was on and eating a healthy, dairy and gluten free diet.  I feel healthy!  I feel energized!  And, I want you to know that you can too!!

I fully disclose that I am an Arbonne Independent Consultant. I also empathise with people with Crohns and colitis as i have had many attacks in my illium and the doctors have said I could be looking at crohns in my future. However most of those attacks were between 2010-2017.

You asked if anyone has nutritional information on Arbonne's Shakes. I wanted to share how it can be found. Every product on Arbonne's website has a "Meet the Product Sheet" hyperlink under the product description. I have addes the one for the Chocolate Protein there is a vanilla option too.

I hope this help answer your request! enlightenedcheeky

Hello - just joined this site! I only was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease last year, however I've been suffering with U/C for about 10 years prior and was never properly diagnosed. Therefore I wasn't treated and now have a permanent condition ( kinda ****** me off)!! Anyway, I just read your post, but I noticed it was from April 23,2013, and hopefully you're still receiving emails from patients that are inquiring about the ingredients In the Arbonne. I have been hospitalized 7 times since last year and lost too much weight. I seem to cant find a balance of as far as the Pro/Pre biotic, Digestion, Flora, etc.. I'm just starting now to want to start drinking protein drinks/ shakes. For me it's kinda life or death.. I'm 52 yo, 5ft tall, or short either way at 82lbs. And still losing weight every week. My GO Doctor out me on Sulfersalazine, which worked great, unfortunately I had got every side effect possible known to this medication, On top of my Rheumatoid Arthritis, I couldn't bare with it any longer. I'm desperate to take matters in my own hands. So with this being said, I googled Protein Shakes and Crohn's and here I am. I hope you receive my email. If anyone reads this and knows the ingredients to "Arbonne" , or can shed some light on any particular protein drinks that are better for our conditions, I would be ever so grateful... Thank you for letting me rambling on....

Hi!  So glad that you were able to get some of the protein so fast!  I typically buy the vanilla because I can either add fruit to it, or I can add cocoa nibs or unsweetened cocoa powder to the vanilla if I am in the mood for chocolate.  I also mix my shakes with almond milk, it adds a little bit as far as calories, but it also makes the shakes taste very creamy like a smoothie.  And, I absolutely 100% recommend the Digestion Plus probiotics.  The reason most probiotics don't work is because they are made with cultures that cannot survive stomach acids and so they never reach the intestines where they will do the most good.  The Digestion Plus is made with cultures that survive stomach acid and so it is able to reach the gut, AND it has prebiotics that help to boost the good but flora, AND enzymes which aid with digestion.  Overall it is a superior product and I am sure you will agree when you try it.  I am sure the consultant already told you that Arbonne has a 45 day money back/return guarantee, so it can't hurt to try it out and give it a shot.  Hope this helps!!  KP

I apologize for not seeing your post until now.  This was the first thread I have started and didn't realize that new posts appear at the top...  Anyway, I am sorry to hear about your daughter.  I was 13 when I was diagnosed and while I can only imagine how it is to be her Mom (I have 2 little ones), I know all to well what she is going through.  I hate it for you both.  To answer your question though, the brand that I use is called Arbonne, I buy it through this website www.simplepleasure.myarbonne.com.  You have to order it through a consultant for the company.  I find the protein shakes tastier and packed with more vitamins, minerals and 'good stuff' than what the docs suggest (i.e. Boost and Ensure).  In fact I showed the information sheet for the protein shakes to my GI at Vanderbilt and she agreed it was far superior to Boost and Ensure.  I also HIGHLY recommend the Digestion Plus from Arbonne!!!!!  I cannot stress enough how much these two products have done for me!  Let me know if you need anymore info, or have anymore questions.

I came on the web site lastnight because I am in the middle of a flare up.  I love this site but have not given myself the time to go on.  I was so happy to find your post.  I go to a massage therapist who sells Arbonne, so I called her today and she came over with the protein powder.  I have to try something different.  I am tempted to try the probiotic but never had a lot of luck with them in the past.  Do you like the chocolate or vanilla?  She only had the vanilla.  I do drink rice and chocolate almond milk and I love it.  Thanks again!

Hi I am brand new to this forum. Joined actually so I could ask you some questions. I am a desperate Mom and my 15 yr old beautiful daughter is suffering.  I am trying to sift through all the internet stuff about nutrition as I do not want to put her on these cancer causing drugs.  My question is what was the vegan protein shake you use and where did you but it?  Also have you heard anything about the Crohns painfree diet by Hohlweg or Dr. David Klein.  Trying to figure out the truth from fiction or scams.

thanks,
Sarah

Thank you so much for your help.  I have left that GI doctor because he was a real idiot.  He was so pushy with that Activia and medications then excluding things from my diet.  He didn't even want to see me for follow up visits, he just keep insisting that Activia is the answer for everything.  Oh well, I will try the protein shake.  I have contemplating going gluten and dairy free.  It's just so hard.  I have been a dairy addict all of my life.  The pain has just become so bad that I have already begun decreasing dairy and soy and will eventually be completely free of it.  Thanks for all of your help.

I am also surprised to hear that your doctor put you on Soy.  Soy is really only good for you in it's fermented state, such as miso and tempeh.  Soy milk and raw soybeans not only tend to contain GMOs, but they also have phytoestrogens and goitrogens which mess up your hormone and thyroid balances.  I drink Almond or Rice milk only.  They taste about the same as soy but are a lot better for you.  Above all, if you have noticed a marked change for the worse with yogurt I would probably try taking dairy completely out of your diet.  Dairy, although we push it as something that everyone needs, is actually really hard to digest and products like Almond milk offer more calcium than milk or yogurt.  I went gluten-free and dairy-free for a month in October and was pleasantly surprised how much of an impact it had.  When I added both of them back to my diet to test my reaction I found that gluten made me nauseous, tired, and made my digestion feel sluggish.  Dairy made me gassy, crampy, and gave me stomach pain.  I don't think everyone needs to take gluten out of their diet, but if you have stomach issues I definitely think that these two things are worth looking into.  Arbonne's products are all gluten free.

I hope that this helps you, and if you would like I hope that you do contact me for more info, etc.  Here is my website info if you would rather just check that out instead.  www.simplepleasure.myarbonne.com

Praying that you find some relief and answers!

Hi!  Sorry, these messages were sent to my spam account so I didn't see them...  Anyway, the shake that I use is by Arbonne.  It is made with pea, rice and cranberry proteins which are very easy to digest and get you 20 grams of protein with no artificial flavors or sweeteners.  I actually became a consultant for the company so that I could build a biz with them and get the discount on products.  But I hate throwing that out there on posts because I don't want people to think, "oh my, another person selling something.."  If you would like an ingredient list and info on the shake please email me:  kara.prisock@gmail.com.  I would also HIGHLY recommend the probiotic that Arbonne has, they use Bacillus coagulans (google it for more info), which is more effective than the better known lacto bacillis because it can survive the stomach acid and actually make its way down to the intestine.  Arbonne calls this product, digestion plus as it has the probiotic, pre-biotic and enzyme.  Together they breakdown bad bacteria, boost good bacteria and the enzyme helps with digestion.  Life saver for me, and SO much more effective than yogurt!!  In fact most yogurts don't do much for offering probiotic effects and the dairy in them, which is hard to digest, causes other issues that are counterproductive.

I would also like to know the brand name of the protein shake.  I have felt just awful since my doctor told me to start eating Activia 3x a day and eating more soy.  I am at my wits end and would sure appreciate to know the brand name.
