Hi my daughter Caitlin was 11 when she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and I felt absolutely distraught and also cried endless tears. She is well at the moment (in remission) and I am grateful for everyday that she is well. I have lived and breathed this disease for the last two years trying to get my hands on any information that I could. Caitlin is now medication free and has been for the last year and a half and who knows she might have to go back onto her medications again but for now I am happy that she is living life without any pain

Glad to hear this. But I was told by my doctor that no symptoms don't mean the disease is cured, have you done a colonoscopy to verify the healing of the intestine?
I am here to update my status and hope that it gives encouragement (I also appreciate all the comments/help!). I am 9 weeks post diagnosis. I maintained a very strict vegan, grain free, low fiber diet. Basically, banana's, papaya, squashes, sweet potatoes, cooked kale. I supplemented with homemade ginger tea (boil ginger root), aloe juice, at home juicing (cabbage & carrot or apple juice, celery & apple juice), peppermint tea and some vitamin supplements including a probiotic. I also ate a probiotic food or drink after every meal. Yes, this is very restrictive! But worth it!! I have been symptom free with normal stools for several weeks and 100% blood free for over a week and I feel great! I see a chiorpractor 3X a week and an acupuncturist 1X a week. I am 100% committed to my health and see all these steps as what I need to do for my body and life. You CAN do it without drugs!!! Don't give up.

I am also that way. Specifically after Pentasa (similar to Aviso) did not help me a bit, and then 6mp almost killed me. Searching the the internet i found and learned a lot about the FMT method. It is not approved by FDA for Chron's yet but i believe it will eventually. I tried it overseas and it helped me but need to continue. Currently i am looking to team up with somebody who is willing to try it as well The biggest thing is to find a good healthy donor. The rest can be DYI - not fun certainly but still better than go on those strong medications

It's not possible to live your entire life without taking some prescription meds for your UC. The holistic approach is very dubious and best tested on those that can tolerate suffering the best. That said I do think you'll be able to find some things from this that can and will help you if you're sensible enough to separate the nonsense from what what works. If you go in believing everything you read, you're in for trouble. I would focus on trying to find what triggers your UC to narrow your search.

We've been using prebiotic/probiotics, Kefir, tumeric, and apple cider vinegar and honey tea. I've used Pinterest a lot, searching for recources and blogs that have natural remedies for UC/Chron's!
I'm with you that I'd rather not have to give J a bunch of medication every day! Eating well, and using natural interventions is the best medicine!

i was in the same situation you are. i also was given apriso. I started juicing and after a year of it im in remission. juicing may not work for eveyone but it did for me. My uc was so bad that i couldnt go outside at all. i realize that i had bad bateria in my stomach and that caused the inflammation. you must find a way to put good bateria in your stomach. google veggies with good bacteria. cabbage and onions.
