Hi. I was diagnosed with crohns and have started steroids and anathiroprine (spelt wrong) which made me worse. I have a MRI scheduled for next week as the pain is becoming as bad as when I was first diagnosed. Id like some tips on diet as anything I eat or drink seems to make the cramp excruciating after an hour or so. I gave up alcohol, dont eat fatty food or cut it off any meat, I eat little or no fibre, dairy Has been cut out but nothing I seem to try works and everything gives me pain now. Please help nobody seems to realise how much pain Im in. Many thanks

I have had indeterminate colitis since 2012. I've been on remicade since, it worked until about a year ago when I had a few flare ups so my doctor changed my treatments to every six weeks instead of 8, that seemed to work but I was still quite fatigued a lot. In the middle of July I watched the documentary, What the Heath, and decided to go vegan because in the movie it directly said that the best remission rates happened with a vegan diet. So far, I feel much better, less fatigued and I spend much less time in the bathroom. I have cheated a bit on the vegan diet but it seems to be working! The only thing that upsets my tummy anymore is hot coffee for some reason, and this has also been a recent thing since February.

Hello! I am currently on the SCD diet. You have to know what items cause you as an individual to have flare ups. There are some items on the SCD diet that I actually don't eat because I notice they cause pain. One thing that is very important is the SCD yogurt if you can't follow the entire diet I recommend at least making the yogurt. There is a website called specialty foods that actually makes SCD items if you are unable

Hi,
I am a 22 y/o female who was just diagnosed with severe UC in Sept. 2016. I recently just watched What the Health on Netflix.
My GI doctor had recommended I follow the SCD diet, which I began to religiously follow, I even bought my own yogurt maker.
Anyway, after watching the documentary on Netflix, I was absolutely astonished. The video has changed my perspective on food and I am now following a vegan diet.

For me no spicy or ibuprofen. I avoid large amounts of cheese too. During a flare I give up coffee. I watch what I eat anyway, but I stick with chicken/turkey, fruits and veggies, and I limit grains. Mostly works for me

Things do get worse before the get better. Everyone will tell you, take this, eat this..blah blah blah. One you learn how your body deals with Crohns, it will become very clear what you can and when you can eat certain things. The best advise I can give you is find a doctor that you trust. Crohn's since '98, took Remicade in '06, ended up in wheelchair from the side affect, surgery in'09. This disease is very tricky as it affects you from head to toe. Everyone is different so dont get caught into the trap of thinking that what works for one person will work for you. Stay around positive people...... Its a life long jouney, but you have to trust YOUR body. God be with you.

The makers diet by Jordan Reuben. Its the only way you can have alcohol just not all the time. Drink carrot juice for ulcers in the upper gi. Use goats milk for infections anywhere in the body. For obstsructions use Super Green food alkalizer and detoxifier buy organic foods . This is expensive but so is 10,000.00 a pop for infusions. Your body gets use to medications and wil reject them. So prepare exercise sometimes I will buy apple cider vinegar take a tablespoon a day clears the arteries .

I would really like to get the fecal matter transplant, I have read up on it and really think it would help. But the only place So could find in Colorado will ONLY do it if you have CDIFF.
I have Ulcerative Colitis and my entire small intestine is affected.
How did you find a doctor to do the FMT and how much did it cost?
Thank you - only 6 weeks diagnosed a flare up that sent me to the hospital because I didn't know what was wrong and wasn't keeping any food down.

Hello Chris,
I am also diagnosed with Crohns Disease and had to go on a strict diet. Honestly, I can't tell you what to remove from your diet because everyone is different. You know your body more than anyone else and if it hurts more after a specific food or beverage, do not eat or drink anymore. My stomach can't handle dairy (I drink almond milk), chocolate, soda, alcohol, tomatoes, pickles, italian dressing, to much starch, to much fiber, nuts or seeds, etc.... I am on a vitamim D supplement to make up for the dairy loss which you should definitely look into if you can't eat dairy. Meat is a difficult one because if it isn't cooked right, your stomach will not agree with it.
I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you are going through a Crohns Disease flare-up. Usually during my flare ups I eat rice with a little sauce or butter, toast (with nothing on it), apple sauce, popsicles, and broth. Make sure you drink gatorade and lots of water while on this diet! This diet will make you feel weak but it is easy to digest and it might take away some of the pain.
Keep on the medication your doctor prescribed and eliminate foods you think are the 'problem foods'! It takes time but you'll get there!
I hope I helped! You're never alone in your battle with Crohns Disease!

Baylor med school recently published an extensive study that demonstrated that there is no prevention for UC, no diet prev ents anything. That is a bunch of pop culture garbage.
If you are going to get a flare up, it will happen. Antifungals make you feel better in between flare ups. I keep lomotil will me at all times for minor diarhea, and budesonide3mg for 5 days if I get a flare up. Usually a specialist will not prescribe this for reasons unknown, but I guess their ego prevents them from giving a patient independance. They think they must chart that they give you a colonoscopy every year even though it serves no purpose in helping you to hav e a normal and independant life. Keep going to different gp s until you get what you want. Dont allow obnoxious, egotistical specialists keep you suffering.

Hello!
I know for me, until my gut had healed, pretty much anything I ate, healthy or not, aggravated me. I found this REALLY amazing probiotic that has helped me a ton.
Klaire Labs Ther-Biotic Factor 4 (Bifidobacterium Complex)
I bought it amazon. If you notice a positive difference, keep taking it! If not, I would start asking for suggestions. Someone else mentioned a naturopathic doctor, which I second. If you have the option, look into finding an osteopathic doctor who will perform spinal manipulations. It's made such an amazing impact in my healing. And I swear by acupuncture. But, if you do that, find someone who treats with Chinese herbs as well and is familiar with treating auto immune issues.
Also, there are clinical trials right now for fecal microbial transplants for IBD, etc sufferers. I did it over a year ago and it helped me IMMENSELY!

Also, another thing I forgot to include in my response was how my body handles raw fruits and vegetables. Eating one banana makes my stomach bloat and I am in so much pain. Cooked veggies are easy to digest, and to get fruits consider baby food. I get the organic, all natural pouches that have the cooked fruit and vegetable puree.

I was dealing with the same thing. I have cut out dairy, gluten, processed sugar, seeds, soy, etc.
My BIGGEST recommendation to you would be to start taking a collagen supplement or drinking bone broth. Bone broth is very soothing to the digestive tract. I get the Pacific brand which is around $5.00 for a 32 oz carton. If you haven't cut out processed sugar, I would try to do that as well. That is my main trigger. I spent a lot of time seeing a Naturopath, where I was tested for food sensitivities and was led to a few different supplements and probiotics. Probiotics are great!

Hi, I had issues with pain from eating as well. I had to blend anything I was eating and eat small meals as my body simply could not handle breaking the food down, eventually I was able to wean myself back onto solid food but it helped me feel better until I got onto the right meds. If your having pain whenever you eat, and not with certain foods then it might help you to do what I did. My suggestion is to cook up some lean meat (I prefer chicken breasts since they were easy to cook up and are nice and lean already) and use some sort of stock so you can blend it into a mush, not a liquid but more like a smoothie consistency. Use some juice to make some smoothies as well with apples, pears, bananas, and mangos for fruits (no seeds and no acidic or gas producing foods). Then cook up some veggies like carrots or peas and use some of the broth or water you cooked it in so that it can blend. Try that for a couple weeks and see if that helps, at the worst you'll be eating healthy and giving your gut a little rest.
