Sugar/gluten-free Vegas?

Sat, December 25, 2010 2:37 PM

I'm going to Vegas for a week (the annual family reunion) and need to figure out how I'm going to eat! Two weeks ago I had a flare and found out I have a stricture, so I'm stuck on a low-residue diet for that. Since the flare showed that my medications aren't cutting it, I'm going to try going sugar-free and gluten-free, following macrobiotic guidelines. Great timing, right?

While I figure I can find something to eat when the family goes out to eat dinner (Vegas buffets ROCK!), anyone have tips on what to do for breakfast/lunch and snacks? I can pack a few supplies, ex. GF bread and packets of instant miso soup. But I just haven't had time to learn the ins and outs of this sort of diet to quickly adapt it to living in a hotel for a week without access to a kitchen or health food stores!

So yeah. Any suggestions of restaurants/grocery stores near or on the Strip that have crazy-diet-compatible food would be great! And if you know a good way to make miso soup in a hotel room...or low-residue snacks...

You can do it!  I have traveled to Vegas sugar and gluten free as well.  There is a Whole Foods there.  When I got off the plane I took a cab there (it's on the same end of town as the airport) and stocked up for breakfast, lunch and snacks.  There are so many choices for our lifestyle there.  They even have Gluten Free pizza in the deli area that's pretty good.  Wheat free beer.  I love sushi and they have some great ones in Vegas, just don't get the soy sauce.  We didn't make it there on my last trip but they have a raw food restaurant that looks great.  Of course you can get sugar and gluten free at a lot of restaurants.  Call ahead and ask if they have gluten free options, many people are now living gluten free and restaurants are usually very willing to help you out by either explaining their options, noting gluten free options on their menus, or suggesting substitutions.  You can enjoy Vegas without feeling deprived.  Have a great time.
