Hello,
I've had Crohn's for the past 20 years and have managed it well with Pentasa & Lialda. Of course I've had the occasional flare up but it has been more consistent over the past two years and now I have unfortunately moved from the mild classification to severe crohn's...
My Doctor is strongly recommending that I start Remicade and I'm a little hesitant after reading the side effects. Is this really something that I want to take for the rest of my life.
So I'm asking the forum community, what have you experienced with regard to pros and cons?
Thank you for your time!!!
Vince

Hi, I have been on Remicade for 8 years now. I was diagnosed with Severe UC back in 2008. At first, I had a reaction to my Remicade infusion (horrible back spasms and headaches). My doctor told them to give me pre-medications that include Benedryl (infused) and Tylenol (pill form). To my surprise the side effects immediate stopped. At first my infusions were done in a hospital over a 4hr. infusion period. Now I get my infusions at an infusion center located in my doctor's office. Less then 1/2 the cost and the infusion is done over an hour because I tolerate it so well. Hope this helps and that Remicade helps you too!

My 13 y.o. son has been on Remicade for about 20 months and he's doing well. No side effects, though he is tried right after the infusion. His doc used to prescribe Tylenol and Benedryl before infusion, but we didn't do it and haven't needed it. He is healthy and happy with no side effects.

I've been on Remicade for years. I was also hesitant to go on and took ever drug before it.
I agree that it should be the last thing you should take but I've had no side-effects with it.
For me it is no big deal at all. I go every two months.
Only side effect I ever had was I broke out in hives once but I just take IV Benadryl before it and conk out the whole time.
